# Gaming groups

> A private group for you and the friends you play with: one shared library of everyone's games, a group chat and your game nights.

A gaming group is a private space for the people you play with. Everyone's games are combined into one shared library, so you can see at a glance what the group owns. The group also gets its own chat and a place for your game nights.

## Create a group

    Open **Communities** from the main menu and select **Add**.

    Choose **Gaming Group**. You are set as the organizer of the group.

    Enter a **Name** between 4 and 64 characters, then select **Create**.

You need a complete profile to create a group. A guest account is not enough. See [Account types](/guides/account-types).

A group always has a shared library and always needs your approval to join, so there is nothing else to set up. Add an image, a description and a location later from the **Manage** tab.

  Hobbyists can own one group or community. Enthusiasts can own more.

## Invite people

    Open the **Members** tab and copy the link under **Share this link with people you want to invite!** Send it to your friends in any chat.

    Your friends open the link and select **Request Membership**. Their button shows **Request Pending** until you answer.

    Their request shows up in the **Members** tab. Select **Accept** or **Reject**.

## Members

A group has an **Owner** and **Members**. There are no moderators, and roles can't be changed. The owner can remove someone with **Kick user** from the member's menu.

A group can have up to **12 members**. If one of the group's owners has [Enthusiast](/guides/account-types#enthusiast), the limit is **50 members**. When the group is full, you can't accept new requests until you make room.

## The shared library

When someone joins the group, their collection is added to the group's library. The **Sharing** column in the **Members** tab shows whose games are included.

* Each member can turn sharing off, and back on, for their own collection.
* The owner can change sharing for anyone in the group.

To search the group's games, pick the group under **Collections** on the Search page. You get all the [Search](/guides/search) filters, so finding a three-player game under an hour takes seconds.

  Want the library on the group page too? Turn on the **Board Game Library** tab under **Manage**. It is off for new groups.

## Game nights with your group

When you invite people to an [event](/guides/events), the groups you are in are listed next to your friends. Select a group to invite all of its members at once.

## Tabs and settings

The owner opens the **Manage** tab to change the group's image, name, description and location.

  The group's location is visible to others. Use a city or a country rather than a private address.

Each tab can be turned on or off, and you choose who sees it. **Everyone** means anyone who opens the group's page.

You also choose which tab opens first under **Default Tab**, and which events show on the Events tab with **Show events from**.

Groups don't have an Overview tab.

## Keep it private, or list it

New groups are **Unlisted**: only people with the link can find them. Under **Manage** > **Discoverability** you can make the group **Listed**, so it shows up on [Explore](/guides/explore) and in search engines. To be listed, the group needs:

* An image of its own.
* A description of at least 50 characters.
* A location that can be shown on the map. This can be a city.
